Why Does My Structure Completely Disappear on The Weekends?

I’m spot on Monday — Friday. I mean spot on. Every day, five days a week this is my routine, with a bunch of meals, showers, etc., thrown in — you get the idea.

· Meditate

· Gratitude

· Write

· Work

· Workout

Why then on Saturday morning was I still in my PJ’s struggling to write this blog post? What is it about the weekend that throws me off my routine?

I’ve promised to write every day for the month of March. Every single day. I wrote five blog posts in a row this week. That was huge for me and I want to keep that momentum going.

I actually crammed in laundry and cleaning the house during the week so that those pesky excuses wouldn’t knee-cap me this morning.

And yet, there I was this morning staring at a blank page in my PJ’s.

There’s a treasure-trove of ways to create a routine and stick to it on the Internet, but surprisingly not a lot about sticking to it through the weekend.

A SparkPeople report found, “Routines are what empower us to function, so during the weekend, when the days are typically not as structured, some creative forethought can help keep you on track.”

I know for me at least I need to keep to a strict routine, no days off if I want to change my behavior. To be ready for tomorrow I’ve got to be organized and structured today.

So, I’ll take the hit today — learn from it, get creative about my structure and be back on track and back on my routine tomorrow.
